Soldier Among Civilians

Picture
Out of place like a purple spatula among chromes.

You can’t place a cat among mice

A soldier among civilians.

Ever since the war things are different.

War has the tendency to do that,

To change things.

Fight fight

And FIGHT!

We scream and punch each other.

Like him and I have something to prove

To one another.

Maybe we do.

Police will be called to silence the violence.

But when they leave we don’t keep.

Like removing an old dog from its death bed,

It’s soon to die either way.

Self Portrait

Picture
I can never forgive myself.

For what I’ve done in this life,

For what I continue to do, is haunting.

If I could I might picture myself

Happy?

Define that for me Alan.

What does happy mean to you?

If I knew could I be?

I’ve been there a few times I know.

But I embrace it so much I forget to write it down.

Perhaps love is happiness.

Or breathing deeply only to exhale laughter.

OR

Maybe in this case

My case

Forgiveness is happiness.
